Greywalls
Designed by the celebrated Edwardian architect, Sir Edwin Lutyens, as "a small, albeit dignified holiday home overlooking Muirfield Golf Course and the Firth of Forth," Greywalls was built in 1901. The warm, honey coloured stone from the Rattlebags Quarry was worked by monks and the specially made pantiles for the roof came from Denmark. This unusual crescent shaped house was always one of Lutyens' favourites. The extensive walled gardens, with their magnificent views, are attributed to the world renowned designer, Gertrude Jekyll. The walled garden, lavender borders and holly hedges hiding secret enclaves, are maintained in all their original glory to this day.
