Founded as a nine hole course in 1894, the course was extended by J H Taylor before the first World War and modified again in 1923 by FH Hawtree. Few Clubs can match Ashburnhams length from the back tees it is nearly 7,000 yards and few its achievement of having three Ryder Cup captains win a tournament on their course. It takes its name from the the fifth Earl of Ashburnham who once owned the land and became the clubs first President is 1894
